Tired of seeing "Soul Plane" on loop on cable? I know I am. There's no shortage of ignorant stereotypes of people of color in film, television, music, the arts as a whole. Seen VH1 "Celeb-reality" lately?
That's why Imagenation exists. Their goal is to promote and provide realistic images of people of color from the African Diaspora expressed through the arts. They've been going strong in Harlem and worldwide since 1997 producing the Imagenation Awards, film festival in conjunction with Harlem Week, Black History Month events at Lincoln Center, among other film screenings.
Next week, they are celebrating the 20th Anniversary of Spike Lee's landmark film, "Do The Right Thing." It's VIP and invite only BUT if you join you get a ticket to a night with Mr. Lee, and a literally rockin' performance of "Fight The Power" by Chuck D and his band, Apollo Heights. Act like you know and invest in positive imagery of us and our beautiful spectrum!
Or you can just watch "Soul Plane" again. It will be there.
