If I'm Blinding You, Get Some Shades

I used to have this quote on my wall at my first job out of graduate school as a semi-adult...or whatever you are at age 23 (quarter-life crisis emotional maniac?). But it still rings true and is important for all of us to remember as we deal with day to day struggles. It seems that many women I know are increasingly facing this issue both at work and in personal (especially romantic) relationships, and we stifle ourselves to make others feel worthy. We don't want to make anyone feel inferior. Booooooo! Enough of that! Women are trained to fall back, to be meek, to be afraid to speak up, especially in our relations with men. Our power is within and we must not be scared to let our true selves shine. We are unique beings and are here on this Earth to share our gifts and perspective with the world. I'm guilty as charged but it's another thing that I'm working on...how to consciously express my truth honestly with no shame and no regrets. It is contagious, so speak freely!

and big up to Nas, who expresses a similar sentiment also noted below...

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."
--Marianne Williamson

"Not afraid of none of you cowards, but of my own strength"
--Nas ("Money over Bullshit")
