NYU Women of Color Policy Network Needs an Intern

Unpaid Intern position - Policy Research Intern

The Organization

The Women of Color Policy Network at NYU Wagner is dedicated to ending the invisibility of women of color in public policy through research, advocacy, education and mentoring a new generation of advocate-researcher s. The Network carries out its mission by coproducing research studies with community based organizations, funders and city government; and providing policy recommendations. Through partnerships and coalitions, we advocate on behalf of the needs facing women of color and their communities. We work to develop a new generation of advocate-researcher s through our internship programs and our Beyond the Window Youth in Policy Program.

The Position

The Policy Research Intern provides programmatic and administrative support to the Network. Responsibilities range from tracking local, state and national legislation, research assistance, writing reports and policy briefs, providing administrative support, organizing and promoting events, working with constituent organizations, and interacting with the public.
Transportation stipend provided.

Qualifications

 Applicants should be undergraduate or graduate students with an interest in issues relating to women of color (undergraduate students should be completing their sophomore or junior year in the spring semester of 2008).
 Intern must commit to working at least 3 days week and/or 15 hours.
 Intern must be able to multi-task (with attention to detail); have good written and oral communication skills & a professional demeanor
 Ability to work respectfully with people of all cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
 Supportive of the Women of Color Policy Network mission and philosophy.
