I'm feeling good and celebrating death this solstice. I feel this death paving the way to rebirth.
A sisterfriend on Facebook asked me how I was celebrating the solstice...I told her I didn't have any traditions (and I don't really) but that I am looking back at what I've lost and gained and learned this year. I don't need to share that here but I just feel thankful for the lessons of the last year. I have been realizing all the ways that I've let fear hold me back, where my boundaries lie, and picking battles. I know rebirth is a constant process but accepting the cycles has made life more rewarding and has helped me cope with the roller coaster ride. This year has helped me develop faith in the divine process. I feel ready to face what the future brings and I'm feeling celebrational.
I've been listening to the song on repeat since I found it 2 hours ago on my friend's blog. It's from an album topping the Japanese iTunes charts literally beating out 50 Cent: Delaware hip-hop group, the 49ers, with producer re:plus. I'm adopting it as my anthem for 2010, a perfect solstice theme song and battle cry. I also know them and have seen their hustle and dedication firsthand over many years. I'm inspired by their journey and feel their truth in this song.
"If it don't fit, then don't force it. It takes time to create before you master the gift." --"Imagine by the 49ers

Speaking of battles, it's also the beginning of Mars retrograde lasting until March 10, 2010. According to astrologist Jamie Kahl, being heroic is our best approach to the next 12 weeks. Read the full post here, here's an excerpt:
What is Mars Retrograde?
“Mars retrograde” means Mars is in the part of its cycle where it is traveling backwards from our point of view here on Earth. When Mars goes retrograde, we are cast upon a symbolic Hero’s Journey.
A retrograde period of any planet is a retrospective of that planet’s themes. It is a time of moving backward, perhaps of going back to pick up pieces lost in the past. It can be a retrieval, a turning inward, a letting-go. A Hero’s Journey is a life-passage in which we retrieve our own heroism. True heroism involves courage, strength, assertiveness, but also gentleness and appropriate restraint—and during this journey we are tested, in a number of ways, for those things. While Mars is retrograde, we’ll face many opportunities to be a hero in a deeper, truer sense than we ever have before.
Lastly, the solstice is a celebration that is revered in cultures and religions around the world. Christmas, while celebrating the birth of Jesus the Savior, also still carries on pagan traditions such as gift-giving and Christmas trees (from the Roman Saturnalia) because it was moved by the Pope in the 6th century to compete with pagan (Goddess) celebrations. It's even admitted by Jesus lovers themselves here at Christianity Today.
At least in honor of our Mother Earth who works in cycles we jointly experience, please eat, drink, give gifts and be merry in whatever way feels good to you...celebrate your death and rebirth!
